Historical change might once have been imagined or perceived in terms of discrete events, it is now not only constant,
but accelerating. The results of this are many, but one that is particularly pressing is the need for all sectors involved in public policy to stop investing in catch‐up solutions. In the current labor market environment, if any system or industry is to have a future, it has to be nimble: its systems have to be modular and adaptable, and policymakers have to be responsive and even anticipatory. In this chapter, we explore how public employment services (PES) could benefit from recent developments in IT and data to create a more adaptive, future proof organization.
